Setting up a hardware wallet is about more than plugging in a device. It is the moment you begin managing access to your digital assets yourself. A Trezor hardware wallet keeps private keys protected on the device, so routine wallet actions can be confirmed with the physical screen and buttons rather than trusting a computer display alone.
Start by checking your surroundings and your source. Connect only to the official Trezor Suite software obtained from trezor.io. If anything feels unexpected—an unfamiliar website, a request to reveal recovery words, or a device that appears already configured—pause and consult official support before continuing. Never follow setup instructions sent to you in an unsolicited message.
During wallet creation, the device will display a recovery seed. This backup is the essential way to recover your wallet if your Trezor is lost, damaged, or replaced. Carefully write each word in its exact order using the offline backup method provided. Check it twice, then store the backup somewhere private and protected from loss, theft, and damage. Do not save it in a notes app, password manager, photo library, email, or cloud drive. Anyone who sees the seed can potentially access your assets, and no support representative needs to know it.
Once the backup is confirmed, set a device PIN if prompted, and make sure you understand what it protects. In Trezor Suite you can then explore receiving, sending, and managing supported assets. Take time to learn how addresses are verified on the device before moving funds. Consider beginning with a small test transaction, and always check destination details on the Trezor screen. Security is a habit: keep Suite updated from official sources, protect your recovery backup, and take a moment to verify before confirming. With those basics in place, you are ready to use your wallet with greater confidence and control.
